The history of the Center Church Crypt is a unique one. When the Church's congregation grew in 1815, its meeting house was expanded over the top of an adjacent 17th century graveyard. Grave markers were left in place and were incorporated into the basement of the new building as a crypt. Damp conditions and a series of poor conservation choices have caused serious damage to many of the stone markers.
